It's Mental Health Awareness Month. How can you help?

In the same way we educate communities about physical health concerns such as heart disease, it’s critical that we start conversations about what mental illness is, how to recognize it and the fact that it is a treatable illness. Here are some simple steps

1. Talk with people around you & really listen.

2. Open up about your experience. If you’ve struggled or are struggling with mental illness, share your story.

3. Educate yourself about mental illness. It’s not uncommon for people to misunderstand mental illness. Learn more about it and share what you learn.

Education and training in the workplace to improve understanding about mental health can also: improve attitudes and language about mental health, and reduce stigma. increase confidence, readiness and skills to support others. encourage people to seek help early and connect to support services. If you or someone you know needs mental health help, call 1-800-662-HELP )(4357).
